Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to my Accelerated Math class. I am looking forward to a fabulous school year with you. This letter will help you get to know me, list the supplies you will need, the differences between this class and regular math, a general overview of how my class operates, what you need to bring each day and grading.
My name is Laura Beck. I am happily married to my husband Adam (he helps coach basketball here at HMS). We have two children, Davis and Allie. I have been teaching 7th grade math and science at Hudson since 2011, but have also taught 6th grade math and science at William Lenoir and Integrated math II at the Early College. I graduated from ASU in 2003 with my bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades math and science. I received my Master’s degree from Gardner-Webb in 2013 and then completed my AIG certification in 2014. This year I will be teaching two seventh grade advanced math classes (first and second block) and one sixth grade advance math class (fourth block) with Mrs. Milligan. You can easily reach me by email at [email protected] or call HMS at 728-4281. I will do my best to return your call during my planning time from 10:00-11:30 or after school. I use a website to communicate important information with you such as daily lesson plans, homework calendar, helpful links, etc. Please bookmark this site www.lbeckhmsadvancedmath.weebly.com and check it daily!!!!
Being prepared for class each day is of the upmost importance. Listed below are the supplies you will need for my class each day.
Attendance will become very important. What we are doing in class is not in the book. You will need to hear what I say and see the examples I put on the screen. Sending assignments without hearing the lesson and seeing the examples is not a good substitute.
We will have a math assignment every day. You may have homework every day. How much homework you have will depend on how much you finish in class. Many parents will say that they cannot do the math that is assigned. My response: Not a problem, it is not your assignment to do, it’s for your child. This class is all about you learning the math. Your job is to be here and to do your best. I will work very hard to help you be successful.
Below is how my class operates on a daily basis:
I look forward to teaching you math this year. Feel free to contact me anytime you have a question or a problem arises. I want this school year to be the best you’ve ever had! Let’s work together to have a successful school year.
